About Dr Craig

Dr Elmari Mulder Craig is one of Africa's best-known sexologists and is, with more than 27 years experience, a globally recognised authority in the fields of sexuality and relationship wellness and studied extensively, both locally and abroad.

Dr Craig is one of the first South Africans who obtained the prestigious qualification of the European Federation of Sexology (EFS) and The European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM): European Certified Sexologist (ECPS), the highest attainable, internationally regognised qualification in Sexology.

​

She also studied under the renowned Prof Domeena Renshaw at The Loyola University: Stricht School of Medicine, Sexual Dysfunction Clinic, in Chicago, USA. She received a PhD in Sexology (Magna Cum Laude) and a Master's degree, MA (MW) Cum Laude.

​

She is a previous President of The Southern African Sexual Health Association (SASHA) and previous member of The African Society for Sexual Medicine (ASSM): Scientific Advisory Board. She was also Section Editor (Sexual Health) of The African Journal for Primary Health Care & Family Medicine. 

​

She is a senior member, senior clinical supervisor and supervisor for supervisors for My Sexual Health.  My Sexual Health provides a platform within a multi-professional team approach to some of the most qualified and credible Sexual Health Professionals in South Africa and abroad.

 

Dr Craig is also a trained in Trauma Incident Reduction (TIR) Therapy,  Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and completed an international Neuropsychology Diploma (Cum Laude).

She presents workshops and training for professionals on human sexuality and relationship therapy and is the owner of Between the Sheets Intimate & Sensual Boutique.

​

She regularly chairs sessions or presents scientific papers at international conferences and is a sought-after speaker who travels nationally and internationally to present talks and training on sexual and relationship health and well-being.

​

Dr Craig is the author of two books and two DVD's and contributed to 26 other books.

She contributes extensively as an expert in her field to online, print and broadcast media. Seks en Jy, a series of 13 talks on the radio station, RSG, was her brainchild and was presented by Martelize Brink with Dr Craig as expert. This show was awarded a Media Veertjie in 2017.

She has a special interest in sexual pain disorders, previous trauma (the mind-body connection) as well as in assisting couples to reinvent their sexual relationship to enhance connection and intimacy. She is also a psychotherapist, clinical hypnotherapist and couple's therapist.

​

She is a member of most professional Sexology organisations in the world (SASHA, WAS, ESSM, EFS) and has been a full member of SAASWIPP for more than 25 years.

​

Elmari is married to Francois Swart and her two children, 6 pets and a bushveld fire gives her great joy.
